Ciambella Mandorlata

A braided, ring shaped, yeasted bread enriched with milk, eggs and butter, and flavoured with fresh lemon zest. It has a top dressing of almonds, nibbed sugar and a little cinnamon.

This traditional Festival Bread is from Emilia Romagna in Northern Italy. It has come to represent springtime and the continuity and unity of life – the continuous ring shape symbolises continuity, and the braiding symbolises the unity and weaving together of peoples.
